If you are looking to add alarm security system equipment to your home, business, or industrial location, you might consider installing a wireless alarm system. When you do this, there are distinct advantages and disadvantages to it, and they are all things that you absolutely need to take into consideration.

One thing is for certain, however, and that is the fact that more and more Americans are experiencing scary moments, robberies, and generally feel the need to have a security system in place in their homes. Of course, every home is different and the needs of every person are different, but the time is coming where almost everyone will need some sort of security system in their homes.

But what kind of home security system is the best? Wireless security systems are becoming increasingly popular and there are a few reasons why that is – but there are also a few reasons why you might not want to use a wireless security system. Let’s take a look:

Pro: No Wires

Wires are unsightly, difficult to navigate, and very easy to snip away at if you want to rob someone’s home. The most obvious pro of installing a wireless alarm system is that there aren’t any cables or wires that you have to work with to install or maintain.

Criminals can easily cut wires and render your systems useless, which defeats the purpose of having them in the first place. A wireless system isn’t as easy to attack without at least some initial planning.

Wired alarm systems also tend to be a little more difficult to install and maintain because you have to consistently work around those wires.

Con: Batteries

This isn’t a huge problem, but wireless systems do tend to go through batteries much more quickly than other types of systems. You have to stay on top of the battery meters so that you know when something is running low – but luckily most systems will just tell you.

Pro: Flexibility

Want your alarm system at one place when you are at work but need it somewhere else when you go away for a week-long vacation? Wireless cameras within your security system will give you flexibility and the ability to move things around extremely quickly.

With wires, you are restricted to certain locations and you might have to stay within a certain radius of outlets or systems. While you still have a restriction with a wireless system, it tends to be bigger.

Wireless cameras will also make it much easier to hide cameras if you want to be stealth with your home security.

Pro: Footage Storage is Secure

One of the biggest perks wireless systems is that your footage almost immediately goes to the cloud, where it will remain safe. Many wired systems will have internal storage for a bit, which means that someone can damage the camera itself and thus destroy the footage. With a wireless system, even if someone does ruin the camera, the footage will still be pristine.

With newer wireless systems, they are even encrypted so that cyber criminals can’t get into the footage and destroy it.

Con: Interference

There are some differences between wireless and wired systems that many people don’t think about when they think of the differences. One of those is interference. There is a chance that the radio waves will have some interference that can cause some false alarms. This isn’t typical and it isn’t a common occurrence, but it is something to keep in mind.

It is a problem if this is an extremely common occurrence (which can happen in some areas) and call centers start to ignore it.

Pro: Easy to Access

When it comes to access, installing a wireless system is your best bet. Most receivers can be extremely far away from the main receiver, everything will still work through walls of any kind. These types of systems also tend to be far more technologically advanced so you will be able to access them at any time.

Con: Cost

As they are still relatively new, wireless alarm systems are a bit more expensive than other types of alarm systems. Each feature is just a bit more advanced and takes a bit of time to develop, so it makes sense that these systems would cost more.

However, many people do believe that the cost does not outweigh the benefits.

Think about your safety. It’s better to seek professional help for your protection.
